Family and friends will remember a girl who loved the rodeo and helping people by celebrating her life during a memorial rodeo this weekend.
On April 19, 2003, Amanda Westermier was competing in a youth rodeo when she was fatally injured. She had left the arena when another competitor lost control of their horse. The rider and horse collided with Amanda, who was thrown from her horse and suffered traumatic head injuries.
After two surgeries, she was pronounced brain-dead.
Amanda’s family donated her organs, which helped six people as well as countless others through bone and tissue donation.
To continue on the path of giving to others, her family has created the Amanda Westermier Memorial Rodeo, which will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011.
The rodeo will begin at 10 a.m. inside the Lazy E. Arena.
Participants can compete in a variety of competitions including barrel racing, calf roping and team roping.
In addition to the rodeo, there will also be a silent auction to raise money for scholarships for the Trinity Fellowship’s Camp of Champions.
