Excellence has become routine at Mercy Hospital Logan County and Mercy Hospital Kingfisher, which were each recognized as being among America’s top 20 critical access hospitals for quality for the third straight year.
The National Rural Health Association named both hospitals as a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital for Best Practice in Quality this year. The hospitals earned the same recognition in 2022 and 2023.
“The caregivers you see when you walk through the doors at one of our hospitals are why awards have become the norm around here,” said Bobby Stitt, administrator of both hospitals. “Everyone on our team works hard every shift to provide the best patient care possible. When everybody is committed to that, official recognition of our work just comes along with it.”
It’s not easy to wind up on the top 20 list. Hospitals are graded on datasets like care quality, patient outcomes, patient perspectives, cost and more.
Critical access hospitals are certified by Medicare and are part of a rural health care safety net. The hospitals provide around-the-clock emergency care to rural areas and receive cost-based Medicare reimbursement.
