STILLWATER, Okla. – The Meridian Technology Center Foundation will host the sixth annual Blue Streak run on November 5, a race to raise scholarship funds for students in full-time training programs at the school.
In addition to lacing up for a good cause this year runners are encouraged to “Layer Up and Leave It” by bringing a new or gently used coat, hat and gloves to donate as they run along the race route.
“Runners will layer up with these items as they start the race and then leave items at designated points along the race route,” said Alane Zannotti, race coordinator and Executive Director of Extension Education and Community Development. “The Foundation has partnered with Meridian’s student organizations to arrange the donation of these items to agencies throughout the Meridian district to help keep residents warm during the winter months. With this element runners and Meridian students have a chance to make a positive impact.”
The Blue Streak run is a great way to make a difference in the life of a Meridian student, and it offers something for everyone regardless of his or her skill level. The 1-mile fun run will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the 5k and 10k will start at 9 a.m. All races will begin and end on Meridian’s campus. The race is certified through USA Track & Field and awards will be given based on age group categories. Medals will be given to all participants.
Representatives from Run With It, a Stillwater specialty running store, will have an information and product booth set up at the race site.
The Meridian Technology Center Foundation assists in the advancement of educational and training opportunities for students attending the school. The Foundation has more than 50 scholarships available to students who want to pursue career training at Meridian.
Before November 4 registration is $15 for anyone under 21 and $30 for participants 21 and up. It will be $35 on the date of the event for adults. The registration fee includes one T-shirt and a race day bag. T-shirts are not guaranteed for race day registration.
