STILLWATER, OK — Hundreds of community members, alumni, students, and community partners visited Meridian’s Stillwater campus on October 5 to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary.
The event featured a ribbon cutting ceremony highlighting Meridian’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the local economy and expanding career-focused education opportunities.
“Since classes began in 1975, Meridian has been committed to empowering our district through career and technical education,” said Sherri Huneycutt, President of Meridian’s Board of Education. “We started with 13 programs and 6 sending schools. Today, we offer over 80 career majors and serve 10 school districts. Everyone in our district has been impacted by Meridian in one way or another. This event was about celebrating that shared story.”
During the ceremony Dr. Douglas R. Major, Meridian’s Superintendent/CEO, also mentioned Meridian’s growth over the years.
“This is not our peak,” Major said. “We are already preparing for the next 50 years of climbing higher. Whether through apprenticeships, flexible learning labs, or technology-driven courses, Meridian will continue to adapt to meet the needs of our community and economy.”
The open house also featured more than 40 interactive activities, a campus-wide scavenger hunt and celebratory cupcakes.
