Meridian Technology Center to host new student open house

STILLWATER, Okla. – Students interested gaining a competitive advantage for college or their career are invited to attend the upcoming Meridian Technology Center New Student and Parent Open House.

On January 26 from 5 pm to 7 pm Meridian’s classrooms and labs will be open for families of students who are interested in making Tech a part of their high school experience.

The Open House is the last opportunity for students to explore available career training options before the February 1 priority enrollment deadline, according to Jeanie Zagar, Executive Director of Meridian’s Career Planning/Career Development.

“This event provides parents an opportunity to see what students have learned in our recent outreach experiences,” she said.  “Parents will have a chance to talk to career instructors and learn how Meridian students can earn their high school diploma, an MTC certificate and college credit in many of the programs.”

Meridian serves students who live in Agra, Carney, Glencoe, Guthrie, Morrison, Mulhall-Orlando, Pawnee, Perkins-Tryon, Perry and Stillwater school districts. They can attend tuition free during their junior and senior years. Sophomores can enroll for afternoon programs when space is available. The Biomedical Sciences and Pre-Engineering STEM Academies are open to sophomores, juniors and seniors. Meridian is open to homeschool students who live in the district.

Late in 2016 Meridian’s career counselors visited with students at their home high schools and discussed career training and leadership opportunities available at Meridian.
Throughout the month of January students are visiting campus and spending time in two or three of Meridian’s 20 programs. The New Student and Parent Open House is a chance for them to come back, spend additional time in their programs of interest and visit with the instructor to learn more about how career training can give them a competitive advantage.

“When students enroll at Meridian Technology Center, they are taking the next step to figure out who they are, what they like and where they want to be. With so many areas of study, we’re certain students can find a program that builds on what they enjoy as they prepare for college or a career,” Zagar added.

Students spend a half day at their home high school and half day with Meridian in hands-on courses. Meridian is tuition free for district high school students and includes free transportation from their home high school. Students can receive credits for high school courses in a variety of academics or as electives.

While attending Meridian students can also participate in Career Training Student Organizations related to their field. Upon graduating Meridian, nearly 90 percent of students continue to higher education or a job related to their program of study. Parents and students can access information about the programs available at Meridian online at www.meridiantech.edu/programs<http://www.meridiantech.edu/programs>.
