MLB players coming to Guthrie for two-session clinic

How cool would it be to learn from a professional baseball player? How about two or three? Well, Guthrie and the Territorial Capital Sports Museum is hosting five big leaguers and a MLB athletic trainer.

The Territorial Capital Sports Museum in Guthrie is hosting a two session winter baseball clinic with five players with Major League Baseball experience and another player trying to make it to the big leagues.

Oklahoma has a rich baseball tradition. Every year, Oklahomans are making their mark in baseball. The Territorial Capital Sports Museum wants to continue this tradition and give Oklahoma youth baseball players the opportunity to learn from the players and personnel that have done their part to continue and to enrich the tradition of baseball in Oklahoma.

The Territorial Capital Sports Museum will feature past and current Major Leaguers, Major League Baseball personnel, as well as a former All-Big XII college baseball player from Oklahoma at the 2013 Winter Baseball Clinic.

On Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to noon, Los Angeles Angels’ pitcher and Edmond Memorial product Garrett Richards, former Angels outfielder Reggie Willits and Angels 2012 draft prospect Caleb Bushyhead will instruct players on pitching, defense and hitting.

The following Saturday (Dec. 14) it will be former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Brian and OU Sooner Shackelford, current assistant athletic trainer for the Los Angeles Dodgers Greg Harrel and current Pittsburgh Pirate and Oklahoma State Cowboy Jordy Mercer will share their thoughts on pitching, arm care and defense.

Registration begins at 9:15 a.m. for both sessions and for players ages 14 to 18 years old. Players can attend one or both sessions, but is limited to 35 players.
