MRAP helps rescue three people from flood waters

Members of the Guthrie Police Department and Guthrie Fire Department combined their resources Tuesday evening to rescue three individuals from dangerous flood waters.

Emergency personnel were informed of three people trapped in the high waters at 3rd Street and Perkins just before 8 p.m.

Firefighters and officers loaded into GPD’s MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protective) and drove into the flowing waters and safely made the rescue.

The male individuals were found in waist high water at the time of the rescue.

The males said they saw a truck at 4th Street and Grant in the flood waters and attempted to rescue someone in the truck.

Turns out no one was inside the vehicle and was known by law enforcement to be unoccupied from earlier in the day.

The City’s MRAP is capable of withstanding fire, high water, storm related debris such as large hail and wind thrown projectiles, gun shots and even explosive blasts.
