“Never hope for it more than you work for it” – Maria Rodgers. FFA and 4-H members from many states lived through this quote at Big 3.
Big 3 consisted of three days of crazy, hectic but invigorating fun. FFA and 4-H members from Oklahoma and eight other states gathered in Stillwater, Oklahoma on July 16-18 for livestock evaluation. Eighteen members from the Mulhall-Orlando FFA Chapter and the Logan County 4-H Club attended.
The Senior 4-H Team members included Eme Pool, Kilee Blehm, Berkley McKay, and Lane Brown, who are all freshmen. They competed and were named the Champion Team for sheep and goats.
Eme Pool placed 2nd as High Individual for sheep and placed 7th overall. This team was also named the Overall Champion Senior 4-H Team.
Four members were a part of the Senior FFA team including senior Daegan Pool, senior Kaylee Blagden, junior Denver McKay, and sophomore Maison Pool. This team placed 25th overall and 8th on cattle. Denver McKay placed 14th overall and was 1st place individual on cattle with a perfect score of 350.
Mulhall-Orlando also won the Big 3 Trophy named in honor of Dr. Joe Hughes.
These same teams attended another competition on July 15 where they attended Northern Oklahoma College Sheep Days in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. The Senior FFA team placed 5th and Denver McKay placed 8th overall. Senior 4-H Team was named Overall Champion for their division; Eme Pool placed 5th, Kilee Blehm and Berkley McKay tied for 9th, and Lane Brown placed 15th.
More than 1,500 students participated in Big 3. “Big 3 is fun, educational, and competitive,” McKay said.
