Guthrie has been in a buzz with the news of the Gentlemen of the Road Stopover coming to town, but that buzz went to another level when Mumford & Sons’ “Babel” won album of the year at Sunday’s Grammy Awards.
Mumford & Sons also won Best Long Form Music Video for their Big Easy Express collaboration with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show.
“We figured we weren’t going to win anything because The Black Keys have been sweeping up all day, and deservedly so,” lead singer Marcus Mumford said in his acceptance speech.
“Babel,” the band’s second release, was both a critical and commercial success in the United States in 2012. “I Will Wait,” the lead single from the album is Mumford and Sons’ biggest American hit so far.
The foursome group will perform in Guthrie with a two-day event set for Sept. 6 and 7. The Guthrie Stopover sold out 25,000 tickets in less than 48 hours.
“We’re very excited that tickets have sold out for the Guthrie stopover. We really showed that Guthrie is going to be a fantastic host town for this event,” Guthrie’s Marketing and Economic Development Director Cody Mosley said.
Along with Mumford & Sons, the Stopover will feature Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Willy Mason, Alabama Shakes, The Vaccines, Bear’s Den, Half Moon Run and Those Darlins.
