The Cottonwood North Neighborhood Association, in association with Neighborhood Solutions, has completed another project for a disabled homeowner in the Cottonwood area of Guthrie.
The current project consisted of trimming overgrown shrubs and tree limbs and removing them from the property, repairing fencing, rebuilding a corner of the carport and replacing fascia boards, and repairing and painting a shed in the back yard.
The hedges and tree limbs were trimmed earlier by a wonderful youth group from the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Garden City, Texas.
“Thanks to Marty Colbert at Cimarron National Golf Club for allowing us to use the burn pile for disposal. The rest of the work was completed by volunteers from the Cottonwood North Neighborhood Association, Neighborhood Solutions and three additional volunteers from the community,” Joe Burkett said.
Refreshments were provided by City Councilwoman Sharyl Padgett, and lunch was provided by Kentucky Fried Chicken of Guthrie. Repairs to the home were made possible by the generous donation of building materials from Pro Build in Edmond, H I S Coatings in Edmond, the New Long Bell Lumber Company in Edmond, and ABC Supply in Oklahoma City.
Cottonwood North Neighborhood Association and Neighborhood Solutions are working hard to make Guthrie a more beautiful and safer community for our families. These Lend-A-Hand projects of helping older, disabled or handicapped, low income, and single parent homeowners make urgent repairs to their homes are an example of how we are working towards accomplishing this goal.
Another project is planned for the Cottonwood area November 15, weather permitting.
“We would like to encourage our readers to get involved in improving our community through this project or one of many other volunteer opportunities with other neighborhood associations, or by helping with the continuing needs of the victims of the grass fires this summer,” Burkett said.
