Local roofing contractors who specialize in Roof Restoration are nearing completion on the roof project at Guthrie Upper Elementary School. The school will be the second roof completion for the school district as part of the successful school bond issue held in May.
The roof work started on Oct. 5 for the entire 26-year-old school building and is the first time the roof has been restored. The price tag came in at an estimated $945,000.
Supt. Dr. Mike Simpson said they prioritized the needs of the current facilities and are addressing the most significant deficiencies.
Over Fall Break, contractors were able to complete the roofing needs for Central Elementary. Once GUES is completed, Fogarty Elementary will have its turn at a new roof.
Estimates for the roofs alone total over $1.4 million of the widely successful $16.2 million bond that was approved by voters back on May 12.
Central Elementary is also scheduled to receive heating/air conditioning upgrades, energy efficient windows and outdoor mortar restoration this summer to finish phase one of three.
