The Citizens for Quality Education held two meetings with ideas and suggestions, but the brainstorming and note taking went into action with brooms, mops, screwdrivers and muscles inside Guthrie High School’s north gym.
The group, who is a team of parents and citizens who want to make things better and easier for Guthrie teachers, students and administration, began their mission Wednesday evening.
The group were able to move two wrestling mats that were being stored in the corner for several years (over a decade) and transported them to Faver. With the mats moved, the remaining portion of the bleachers were extended out for use.
With the help of a janitor, two teachers and a principal, members of the CQE cleaned underneath the stands and attacked the stands with a scrapper, bleach water and mop giving the gym the old-fashion smell good clean.
“Thanks everyone (school staff and CQE members) for tonight. Proud of our schools and all of you,” Phil Nichols said.
Nichols is expected to speak on Monday’s Board of Education meeting to formally introduce the group and their goals.
