Obituary: Darlene Headrick Thompson

Darlene Headrick Thompson, also known to her family as Mom, Grandma & GiGi, lost her courageous battle with cancer. She passed away with her loved ones by her side at home on Thursday, September 30, 2021.

She was born in Tompkinsville, KY to the late Almond & Ruth (Wheat) Headrick on March 16, 1943. She was the fifth child out of six and was the baby girl. She was preceded in death by her sister Clova Dean Lyon, brothers Donald Lee Headrick, Maxey Doyle Headrick and William David Headrick. She is survived by her brother Darrell (Eva Pearl) of Tompkinsville, Ky.

She was the foundation of her family and will be truly missed by her 3 children.  Son, Timothy James Jones (Oklahoma City, OK), daughter Melanie Ruth Montgomery (Wayne) of Shelbyville, IN and Cyndi Gay Ivins (Chris) of Lufkin, TX.
She was grandma to Amber Moore, Ashley Bierman (Lonny), Alicia Saylor (Eddie), Blake Montgomery (Jessica), Zachary Montgomery (fiancé Erin), Lindsay Tillison (Jacob), Morgan Ivins (Kaitlyn), Lauren Ivins and William Montgomery. She was GiGi to 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

She is also survived by several nieces & nephews and lots of very close friends.

She was a 1961 graduate from Tompkinsville High School.

She retired from Western Electric in 1985 but wasn’t one to sit at home. She went to work for Reserve National and worked there for 10 years, where she made some special & lasting friendships.

She enjoyed her many friends and days just hanging with the girls from Crescent, Oklahoma were she previously resided. They went on many adventures together, and there was a lot of porch swinging just pondering life and enjoying the view! She was an avid bowler & was on a bowling league in her younger days. Her hobbies included reading, working in her flower garden, and making silk flower arrangements.

Since moving back to Indiana she enjoyed time with her grandchildren & giving them advice when she thought it was needed. She loved to watch her many great grandchildren play & always enjoyed the sleep overs with them.
She will be missed by her friends & family here on earth, but we know she is rejoicing in heaven to be reunited with her family, I am sure that they are seeing the beautiful sights and looking forward to the day we meet again.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Yokley Trible Funeral Home, 510 West Fourth Street, Tompkinsville, KY. Visitation is after 1:00 PM until service time on Thursday at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.
