The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) is expected to award a construction bid for the upcoming Highway 33 project on Guthrie’s west side in their next scheduled meeting.
ODOT is set for a Oct. 3 meeting at 11 a.m. to discuss and possibly award the bid for the much-anticipated new bridge that connects to Guthrie’s west side.
The project will replace the existing 80-year-old bridge.
Over the last several months, ODOT has been relocating utilities and clearing area for the first section of the bridge, which will be built to the south adjacent to the existing bridge. Once this new portion of bridge has been constructed, traffic will be shifted to flow across the bridge. This will prevent traffic from being completely shut down throughout the construction process.
ODOT opened the blind bidding process on Sept. 15 for the project. In total, six companies placed a bid for the job.
The lowest bid supplied came from Manhattan Road & Bridge Company at $17,235,548.53. The highest bid was registered by Allen Contracting, Inc. at $22,274,386.00.
Other bids, included Frontier Bridge, Inc. ($19,986,965.61), Sherwood Construction Co., Inc. ($19,928,996.91) Sema Construction, Inc. ($19,355,270.65) and OBC, Inc. ($18,522,695.07).
Once the bid is awarded, ODOT officials say construction on average begins 60 days afterwards.
The project is expected to take 560 calendar days, or about a year and a half to complete.
