Officials release name of victim found dead in house fire

Guthrie Fire Department Chief Eric Harlow released the name of the male, who was found dead inside a house fire last week on Guthrie’s east side.

The body was identified as Jesse Jashun Johnson.

He was 30-years-old and from Guthrie

The body was taken to the medical examiner’s office, where the body was identified.

Fire crews responded to the 600 block of E. Springer on March 1. Once on the scene, just 30 seconds after the call was dispatched, the front of the home was fully-involved with flames and smoke. Related article: One person found dead inside house fire

Several minutes later, crews were requested for a subject with burn injuries across the street from the burning home.  A male was found with minor burns to his face and singed hair.

“He was able to provide emergency crews with very little information,” Harlow stated.  He was subsequently transported to Mercy Hospital Logan County for treatment of his injuries.  The male’s identity has not been released.

The fire was extinguished with mutual aid assistance from both Sooner and Oak Cliff Fire Departments. As the fire was being extinguished, Johnson’s body was located in a bedroom on the second floor of the home.  Crews were released from the scene at approximately 5 p.m. that evening.

The fire’s cause remains under investigation by the Guthrie Fire Department, Guthrie Police Department and Oklahoma State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Funeral services for Johnson will be March 16 at 2 p.m. in the Hayes Funeral Home Chapel.
