Update 9:30 a.m. – Officials have said the Cottonwood Creek has crested and will stay inside its banks after the second round of storms proved to be lesser than expected.
After receiving 3.36 inches of rain early Saturday morning, officials feared with the weather forecast the Cottonwood Creek would flood first at Broadway and Camp and eventually at Highway 33 that seperates the city’s west and east side.
The second round of storms on Sunday evening brought just .32 of an inch of rain.
Original story: Officials are closely watching the flood stage in one particularly area as it will have an effect on the west sides of Guthrie.
The Cottonwood Creek, at Broadway and Camp north of the railroad tracks, is currently one-foot from flood stage and could come out of its banks with the projected incoming weather later this evening (after dark).
If the creek were to come out at that location, officials believe it will take 10 hours for the Cottonwood Creek, at Highway 33 on the city’s west side, to spill out.
At 4:00, the creek located under the viaduct was four-feet below flood stage.
Guthrie officially received 3.36 inches of rain on Friday.
