Two Enid residents were struck and killed early Saturday morning on Interstate 35 in Logan County after exiting their vehicle following a collision with a deer.
The crash, first reported by Guthrie News Page at the time it occurred early Saturday, happened around 1:55 a.m. in the northbound lanes near mile marker 165.
This updated information comes from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
According to troopers, the initial vehicle hit a deer and became disabled in the roadway. The two occupants, identified as Payton Kaminskas, 23, of Enid, and Jason Kaminskas, 40, of Enid, exited the vehicle to check the damage.
Shortly after, a commercial motor vehicle driven by a 34-year-old from El Reno struck the disabled vehicle and both pedestrians.
Moments later, a third vehicle driven by a 49-year-old male also collided with the initial vehicle.
Guthrie Fire pronounced both pedestrians deceased at the scene. The man from El Reno was not injured. However, the driver of the third vehicle sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to a hospital.
Due to the severity of the collision and the investigation, northbound I-35 was shut down for several hours, and traffic was rerouted onto State Highway 33. The interstate reopened at 11:15 a.m.
