Teachers throughout Oklahoma will be honored by the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Teacher of the Game. A Guthrie teacher had his day and recognition on Christmas Day.
Guthrie Junior High history teacher Bryan Dearing, now in his 1oth year with the Guthrie school district, received an ovation for his achievement during a time-out of the Thunder’s Christmas Day game with the Chicago Bulls.
In February, Dearing was named the 2014-15 District Teacher of the Year for Guthrie Public Schools.
With the in-game recognition, Dearing received a gift bag from American Fidelity with a gift card for classroom supplies and seats behind the Thunder’s bench.
Dearing, who says his favorite Thunder player is Kevin Durant, got into education to help serve his community.
“I have a passion and gift for not only teaching students knowledge, but for inspiring them, and guiding them into becoming productive citizens who have a love for learning,” Dearing said.
The Thunder will honor 41 different teachers throughout the regular season.
