Oklahoma man dies in single vehicle accident north of Guthrie

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports a person was killed on Interstate 35 early Friday morning just north of Guthrie.

According to a trooper’s report, emergency crews responded to mile marker 159, approximately one-mile north of Guthrie, for a single vehicle accident just after 2 a.m.

Michael S. Phillips, 31, of Moore was pronounced dead on the scene.

The trooper says Phillips appears to have fallen asleep behind the wheel and departed the roadway to the left. Phillips overcorrected causing his 2002 Chevrolet to roll twice resulting in him being ejected.

The report shows Phillips was not wearing a seatbelt.
