Oklahoma State women’s basketball coach Kurt Budke and assistant Miranda Serna have died in a plane crash along with two others.

Budke and Serna died when the single-engine, four-seat Piper PA-28 Cherokee crashed about four miles south of Perryville on Thursday night. That’s about 30 miles northwest of Little Rock.

There were  two other individuals on board, including the pilot, that were not affiliated with the university. There were no survivors.

“The Oklahoma State family is devastated by this tragedy,” OSU president Burns Hargis said Friday in the statement. “Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of Kurt Budke, Miranda Serna and the other victims.

Just 10 months ago the school commemorated the 10th anniversary of a crash that killed 10 men associated with the men’s program on Jan. 27, 2001, near Boulder, Colo.

The plane Budke and Serna were riding in for a recruiting trip crashed near a wildlife management area in central Arkansas near Perryville, about 45 miles west of Little Rock. A cause of the crash was not announced.

The team was informed of the tragedy early Friday morning at 6:00.  Budke, 50, had coached for six seasons at OSU. He was married with three children. Serna had also been at OSU for six seasons.
