A citizen petition request to conduct a special investigative audit on the City of Guthrie will not happen after a required amount of signatures failed to meet the required threshold.
The Logan County Election Board informed the State Auditor’s Office that the petitioners did not obtain enough signatures from registered voters residing within the boundaries of the City of Guthrie.
The Election Board says there were a total of 606 signatures on the petition, but found only 494 of those signatures were actually registered voters within the boundaries. The minimum number of valid signatures needed was 563.

“The City’s intention is to always be forthcoming and transparent, and to provide equal access to information to all citizens,” City Manager Sereniah Breland said.
The Auditor’s Office first reviewed documents supplied to them from the petitioners and at the time did not pursue an audit on the City of Guthrie due to cost-prohibitive concerns following inquiries and comments they received from an individual in the Guthrie area.
The audit could have been a financial burden to the City of Guthrie at an estimated $30,000 to $50,000 based on audit hours and travel expense.
