It was not the best played game for the Piedmont Lady Wildcats, but it was good enough to collect a 40-30 win to take the season series from Guthrie.
The Wildcats (10-3) committed 24 turnovers and made just five of their 16 three-point shots, but hit crucial shots as Guthrie made their push.
Guthrie (3-9) trailed 25-12 early in the third quarter, but dropped the deficit to five with 1:13 left before the half with an 11 to 3 run. Sparking the run was Melinda and Mikaela Murillo’s four points each and Gracynn Smith two. However, Piedmont got big buckets from Sarah Parker and Kylie Boggess to push the lead back into double digits.
Melinda Murillo led the scoring ways for Guthrie with 10 and sister Mikaela finishing with 8.
The Lady Jays will travel to Miami on Thursday and participate in the three-day round robin tournament with games against Roland (6:00), Grove (4:30) and Tulsa McLain (1:30).
Guthrie Scorers: Melinda Murillo 10, Mikaela Murillo 8, Gracynn Smith 5, Cassidy Jones 5, Paige Stevenson 2
