The Guthrie Police Department (GPD) gave the warning earlier this summer. However, a teen driver did not take the advice and was arrested earlier this month. The Pokémon app game is reported the cause of a vehicle accident.
According to a press release, GPD and Guthrie Fire EMS were dispatched to the intersection of Oklahoma Ave. and Poplar St. to a report of an unattended vehicle overturned in the roadway.
When officers arrived they discovered a blue 2006 Chevy Cobalt had struck a parked grey 2011 Dodge Charger, causing the Cobalt to overturn.
The driver and passenger of the Cobalt left the scene without reporting the accident.
The investigation led officers to the arrest of a juvenile for driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.
The juvenile stated they were playing Pokémon Go while driving and after striking the parked vehicle, became scared and called a family member to pick them up, according to police.
