Police capture suspect following foot pursuit

Witnesses and good police work helped snag a suspect off the street after he led police officers on a foot pursuit along S. Division St. Saturday morning.

Guthrie police officers were dispatched in the area of Wal-Mart after a man was seen walking with reported stolen merchandise in a shopping cart to a nearby business along Division St.

Witnesses saw the man get into a silver vehicle, but later saw the man get out of the vehicle near the intersection of Division and Industrial Road. Police search nearby fields, buildings and cars, but were unable to locate the suspect identified as a tall, white male with red hair.

Police were also unable to locate the silver vehicle. Turns out, that vehicle was reported stolen out of Texas.

Several minutes later, just before 11 a.m., a resident, who was unaware of the scenario a mile north of them, in the Mission Hills addition called police when they saw a white male with red hair running and drenched in sweat.

A Guthrie police officer spotted the subject and the foot pursuit was on again as the suspect took off south and through a storage unit facility.

The officer eventually led the suspect into the waiting arms of a Logan County deputy and the suspect was taken into custody without any further incident. He was handcuffed just south of the storage units.

Police are now working leads, including video from Wal-Mart, to try to possibly identify the driver of the stolen vehicle.

The reported stolen merchandise is estimated to be between $600 and $700.
