Police chief excited about group of applicants, community

The Guthrie Police Department conducted their physical agility testing on Wednesday morning after seeing a record number of applicants.

With several City of Guthrie employees and citizens rooting them on, 31 of the 70 applicants arrived to take on the obstacle course at the department’s firing range. Of those, 24 passed the agility test and proceeded to the afternoon’s written examination.

“We have the hardest entry-level physical agility test to be found in the OKC Metro,” Police Chief Don Sweger said.

The police chief said they saw a high number of female and minority applicants compared to previous testing cycles.

The department, who is looking to fill three spots, says the number of applicants is a reflection of the community.

Thank you for believing in us and giving us the chance to continue to be servants, guardians, friends and supporters of this gem of a community.”

A thorough background check, psychological testing, polygraph examination(s), drug and alcohol testing and pension physical testing still awaits.

“This was an awesome group of applicants. We are certain that we are going to have some great recruit peace officers to choose from,” Sweger added.
