The Guthrie Police Department took part in a unique training simulation this week by a simulator-style system which allows them to experience situations as close to real life as possible.

City of Guthrie’s primary coverage provider, Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group, hosted the free training and gave officers realistic scenarios with different outcomes, including traffic stops, hostage and domestic violence situations.
Each officer, along with reserve officers, each took time on the mobile simulation device over a two-day period of time inside City Hall.
A moderator descries the scene that the officer will be arriving on, plays the video and then allows the officer to use his skills. After the scenario completes, the moderator and officer go over each move that was made or not made.
The moderator is quick to praise the officers for their decisions, but also explains, if needed, what the officer may have done different.
The training helps officers practice shooting, communicating and making split-second decisions involving the use of force. Afterwards, officers were given written tests.
