The hilariously charming hit musical Forever Plaid will take you on a trip through nostalgia with The Plaids, a fictional 1950’s boy band. Tragically, and inconveniently struck down before their first big gig, Sparky, Jinx, Smudge and Frankie will return to earth to take the stage for the show that never was. Forever Plaid kicks off the Pollard’s 26th season, opening August 24th.
One of the most popular musicals in recent memory, Forever Plaid showcases the upbeat music of the the 1950s made popular by the likes of Perry Como, Eddie Fisher, The Four Lads and The Ames Brothers and includes such hits as “Catch A Falling Star,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Crazy ‘Bout Ya Baby” and “Love Is a Many Splendored Thing.” This toe-tapping and charming production is a treat for the entire family, evoking fond memories of yesteryear for some and introducing others to genre of a simpler time.
Since its debut in 1990, Forever Plaid has delighted audience with its all-American charm and cleancut sense of humor. Garnering praise from critics and audiences alike, Forever Plaid is an one of a kind international success story. The New York Post calls it, “Entirely enchanting, utterly entertaining, awesome!…will put a smile on your face, a hum in your throat and a tap to your feet.” Director and Choreographer Timothy Stewart, who has recently directed hit productions of Beehive and Smokey Joe’s Cafe, believes that Forever Plaid is a perfect fit for the Pollard and its audiences. “This show is such a great blend of charm and silliness, nostalgia and family; it’s exactly the kind of show I love to do and, in addition to being really fun and funny, it evokes such warm feelings. It’s the perfect escape.”
Stewart (Beehive, Smokey Joe’s Cafe & Legally Blonde) has assembled a talented cast and production team to help return the Plaids to the world of the living. The multi-talented cast of Forever Plaid will feature Jared Blount as Sparky, Doug Rankin as Jinx, Jake DeTommaso as Frankie and Clayton Blair as Smudge. The creative team includes Todd Malicoate (Accompanist & Musical Director), W. Jerome Stevenson (Lighting & Sound Designer), Michael James (Costume Designer), James A. Hughes (Scenic Designer), James Ong (Assistant Stage Manager) and Brian Smith (Production Stage Manager).
