Popular food truck spot marked as state property, vendors must relocate

A once-popular gathering spot for food trucks and vendors in Guthrie is coming to a close, following new signage that designates the land as State of Oklahoma property.

The area in question consists of two vacant lots in the 1400 block of South Division Street, where food trucks have regularly served lunch and dinner in recent years. The lots, which once held brick-and-mortar businesses, became a favored location for mobile food vendors due to their visibility and convenience.

However, on Monday morning, a white truck bearing a State of Oklahoma decal was seen posting signs around the property. The signs warn against loitering, dumping, or trespassing, effectively ending the use of the lots for public food service.

The property is owned by the Commissioners of the Land Office (CLO), a state agency that manages land and assets to support public education in Oklahoma. In 2024, the Logan County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) took over the lease for the nearby former Department of Human Services building, which is set to become the new Logan County Administration Building.

The BOCC also explored leasing the vacant land from CLO for a potential county health department last month. However, CLO offered the nearly three-acre site at $10,800 per year, a price county commissioners unanimously declined due to the absence of immediate development plans.

As a result, food truck operators and vendors will now need to search for a new location to continue their business.
