Many motorists have questioned why the Oklahoma Department of Transportation is once again working on the brand new bridge on Highway 33 on Guthrie’s west side.
“This is preventative maintenance to help seal the bridge deck ahead of winter,” Public Information Manager Lisa Salim said in response to Guthrie News Page.
In addition the work project will put a sealant over any cracks that normally occur in concrete to prevent moisture from seeping underneath the deck.
“We want to protect the deck from moisture as much as we can and this preventative maintenance helps extend its lifespan,” Salim added.
“The longer we can protect those elements from moisture the longer the healthy lifespan of the bridge.”
Eastbound and westbound will be narrowed to one lane in each direction between Division St. and N. 12th St. from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Friday.
Motorists are advised to expect delays in the area and to use caution in the temporary work zone.
Great idea !!
