Program for special needs children in need of facilitator

Brothers and sisters of children with special needs gathered Saturday at the Guthrie Public Library.  Their monthly meetings are called Sibshops. The children had fun playing games, and learning about the needs of their siblings. Most importantly, they received support and encouragement from their peers.

The picture shows the participants personalizing backpacks. The facilitator, Kristen Wallen, used the activity to encourage the children to discuss their personalities and interests. The participants are from left to right, Leaun Manning, Savannah Parks and Kaleigh Boucher.

Currently, Sibshops is looking for a new facilitator in Logan County. This would be a perfect opportunity for the adult sibling of an individual with special needs to share what they have learned. Anyone with an interested in volunteering to support families of children with special needs can contact Brandy Parks, Sooner SUCCESS County Coordinator, at 613-0042 or by e-mail at [email protected].
