A man is in custody after he led deputies in a vehicle pursuit over the weekend with speeds reaching nearly 100 mph. Once he crashed out, he left his injured girlfriend behind.
A Logan County deputy observed a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 swerving all over the road as it traveled south on Sooner Road from Seward Road just before 2 a.m. on Saturday.
The pickup truck veered off the roadway before making an illegal turn on to Simpson Road by going into the oncoming traffic’s lane, according to a report.
The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the truck, but the driver failed to stop by ignoring the lights and sirens.
To further attempt his get away, the driver turned off his headlights and tail lights.
With speeds in excess of 95 mph and several traffic violations, the driver made a sharp turn at Ward Road near the Hidden Oaks Addition. The driver failed to negotiate a turn onto Simpson Road, which resulted in the truck landing into a large cedar tree.
From there, the driver, Alexander Cordoza-Valenzuela, fled from the wrecked truck and leaving his injured girlfriend trapped inside.
“Once again we have a subject that has shown complete disregard for innocent motorist by eluding law enforcement on our county roads,” Lieutenant Marcus Williams said.
The passenger was freed from the vehicle and treated at the scene by the Oak Cliff Fire Department.
Once additional deputies arrived on the scene, the suspect was found hiding under thick brush in a heavily wooded area just north of the crash site. Cordoza-Valenzuela was treated at the scene and transported to jail on numerous criminal complaints.
“I’m extremely proud of our deputies who pursued the subject into heavy brush in complete darkness taking him into custody,” Williams added.
Cordoza-Valenzuela was charged with attempting to elude an officer and endangering another, attempting to leave the scene of an accident with personal injury and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
He was given a $15,000 bond and a court date of May 24.
