Residents escape from burning home; family pet dies

On Tuesday just after 12 p.m., the Guthrie Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 900 block of N. Ash.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames coming from the back of the home. Thanks to the quick action of the fire attack crew, the blaze was knocked down swiftly, and most of the damage was contained to the area where the fire originated.

Both occupants of the home were able to escape without injury, but tragically, a small dog suffered from smoke inhalation. Despite firefighters’ efforts, including administering CPR and providing oxygen, they were unable to save the animal in the front yard.

The Crescent Fire Department assisted Guthrie crews in battling the fire. Emergency Manager Steven Haga was also on the scene, helping the displaced residents connect with the American Red Cross for further assistance.

The fire’s cause is still under investigation, though it is believed to have started near the home’s breaker box.
