Two pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter for the Bluejays in a 14-0 victory in five innings over Northwest Classen on Monday at Squires Field.

Guthrie Baseball LogoZane Maltz and Reed Roberts tallied 10 strikeouts and walked four in completing the no-no in the season opener.

Zane Maltz talks about his day in the post game show.

Both teams will meet again Tuesday afternoon in Oklahoma City. First pitch is set for 4:30 and can be heard on Guthrie Sports Page or Guthrie News Page.

Roberts (1-0) had an impressive outing against NW Classen’s lineup. Roberts held NW Classen hitless over three innings, allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out six.

Assistant coach Chase Langley glad to set the tone with a season opening win. He talked about the game on the post game show.

Roberts (1-0, 1-0) showed his talents on both sides of the diamond with a strong game on the rubber and at the plate to earn the Legends Legend of the Game.

Roberts had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the first and second innings.

Ten runs in the first three innings helped Guthrie blow out NW Classen. A two-run double by Roberts, an error, a groundout by Camden Wilcott, and an RBI single by Maltz in the first inning and a wild pitch, an error, and a passed ball during the second inning supplied the early offense for the Jays.

Wilcott, Jacob Chappell and Roberts helped lead Bluejays. They combined for four hits and four RBIs.

Wilcott talked about the season opening win in the post game show.
