Rowdy Reihs comes through in the clutch, Jays upends Shawnee at State

Rowdy Reihs brought home the go-ahead run to give Guthrie the lead in the sixth inning, as the Jays hung on to beat Shawnee 8-4 in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament.

Guthrie (31-8) advances to play Carl Albert, who got things going offensively to eliminate Pryor, 10-4. Guthrie and Carl Albert will play at 11 a.m. The other semifinal will feature Deer Creek and Claremore. Both games will be played at L. Dale Mitchell Park (OU) in Norman.

Shawnee (31-6) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the third. Shawnee’s rally started when Aj Barron singled. Josh Rolette singled, plating Eli Davis. Shawnee then tacked on more runs when Barron and Rolette scored on a two-run single by Landon Harper and Cooper scored on an error.

Donovan Jordan walked to get on base in the sixth. He then went from second to third on an error.

Rowdy racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Jays, including the hit that scored Jordan and Jacob Chappell to give the Jays their first lead 6-4.

Reed Roberts (12-1) recorded the win for the Jays. He allowed four runs over seven innings. Roberts struck out five, walked three and gave up six hits.

Roberts added an RBI single that plated Jordan for the Jays first run in the fifth inning to cut the deficit down to 4-1.

The sixth spelled defeat for Shawnee, as Guthrie scored seven runs in the frame.
