In a thrilling district showdown, Guthrie junior Savannah Ingle delivered the biggest hit of the season Monday night, driving in the game-winning run to give the Lady Jays a dramatic 2-1 walk-off victory over the Midwest City Bombers. The clutch hit not only secured Guthrie’s fourth straight win but also kept the team in prime position to host another Class 5A regional.
The game was a pitcher’s duel from start to finish.
Midwest City scratched across a run in the third inning on a wild pitch, but Guthrie answered in the seventh when Lola Brown singled to center, tying the game at one. With the pressure mounting in extra innings, Ingle stepped to the plate in the bottom of the eighth and ripped a single that scored the winning run, sending the Guthrie dugout into celebration.
Offensively, Guthrie collected seven hits, with Ingle, Codi Hibbs, and Brown each contributing two apiece.
Guthrie, now 10-10 on the season, is peaking at the right time. Earlier this month, they claimed the Bethany Tournament championship, notching wins over Crossings Christian, Pauls Valley, OKC Broncos, and Bethany.
Guthrie has now won eight of their last 10 games and four straight in district play.
Looking ahead, the Lady Jays face three critical district matchups with El Reno, Midwest City, and Carl Albert. Guthrie already owns district wins over El Reno and Midwest City, but will look to avenge an earlier loss to Carl Albert.
In the standings, Carl Albert leads at 7-0, followed by Guthrie and Midwest City at 5-1. The top two teams will earn the right to host regionals in October.
For now, thanks to Ingle’s clutch hit, Guthrie’s home postseason hopes remain alive.
