Schedule: Guthrie set for annual Homecoming game, events

Guthrie is well-known for its celebration of Homecoming activities each fall during the football season. The 2017 campaign looks to continue the tradition.

Homecoming Week is set to begin on Monday, Oct. 2 with the highlight coming on Friday night (Oct. 6) when the Bluejays host Northwest Classen inside Jelsma Stadium with a kickoff for 7 p.m. The annual coronation and crowning of the queen will take place during halftime of the game.

The 2017 theme is ‘All around the world… You’ll always find your way back home’.

With several class reunions planned around the week, many will attend the Alumni program set for Friday morning inside the Guthrie High School cafeteria at 9 a.m. Alumni registration begins at 8:15 a.m. with coffee and donuts.

The program will feature performances by the GHS band and choir, Pied Pipers, Drama Club, cheerleaders, football royalty and presentation of the Hall of Fame inductees.

Due to other events in town, the Homecoming Parade will see a different look with the parade starting at the intersection of Harrison Ave. and Wentz St. at 2:30 p.m. The parade route will head west on Harrison Ave, north on 2nd St. and east on Oklahoma Ave. to Capital St.

Floats and parade entries will start lining up at Harrison and Wentz.

The Hall of Fame banquet will be held in the Territorial Capital Sports Museum, located at 315 W. Oklahoma, at 3:30 p.m.

The hall of fame class, includes Mallory Cowden Woods, Shane McKenzie, Parrish Pierce, Brent Hodge, Ric Meshew and the 2002 state championship football team.
