School board appoints new member to fill vacancy

In a special meeting early Wednesday morning, the Board of Education for Guthrie Public Schools unanimously voted in a new member to fill the vacancy in Ward #2.

With a 6-0 vote, Ron Plagg takes over the seat.

The vacancy was created when former board member Terry Pennington resigned on September 10. Related articleBoard of Education accepts member’s resignation; announces seat vacancy

Since Pennington served less than half of his term, an election is required to fill the remainder of the term which runs through 2021.

The filing period for the seat is in early December with an election in April. If more than two candidates file, an election would occur in February, with a run-off in April.
