Update on June 9 at 8:30 p.m. – Update – GPD confirms all five vehicles, that were stolen, have been recovered. 3 people have been detained, one person arrested and a runaway female released to Blanchard police.
This final stolen vehicle recovered was located at Hwy 74 and 33 with four individuals inside.
In a bizarre string of events, that resulted in three cars being stolen from a downtown auto shop, a church group will now be making their field trip despite thieves taking a church van’s tire.
Guthrie News Page first reported three vehicles had been stolen overnight on Monday morning from Short’s Service Center, located at 101 E. Harrison. One vehicle was spotted later that day around 2 p.m.

The second vehicle was spotted around 10 a.m. on Tuesday in Oak Park (off on Pine St.) on Guthrie’s east side. When officers were called to the scene, a Dodge pickup truck was found with a rear tire in the back blown out. Holding the back side up was a tire that was stolen from a church van at First Christian Church
Church members found the tire missing on Tuesday morning with the jack under the van and five of the eight lug nuts.
The church’ Mother’s Day Out program was scheduled to take a field trip on Thursday, but appeared it was going to be postponed. However, BD Short made sure the trip would still go on.
Short, the owner of Short’s Automotive where the vehicles were stolen from, purchased three lug nuts for the church and now the field trip will go on as scheduled.
