Senior night has a perfect ending

It could be safe to say senior McKale Hopfer will remember her senior night softball game, along with her fellow six seniors.

The Lady Jays won their 17th game of the season with a convincing 19-0 district win over Southeast in three innings. In the process, Hopfer faced the minimum and pitched her second perfect game this season against the Lady Spartans.

Guthrie improves to 17-13 overall and 9-4 in the district.

Hopfer took on nine Southeast hitters and struck out six of those. Earlier this year on August 14, she struck out seven of the nine Southeast batters en route to her first perfect game against Southeast.

Before Hopfer could get in the circle, her teammates gave her a 9-0 lead after sending 15 batters to the plate. Eight of the nine hitters scored, including senior Madison Sutton who scored twice.

Despite only batting in two innings, Guthrie collected nine hits and took advantage of numerous base on balls.

Before the game, the team honored each seven of the senior players, including Samantha Simpson, Madison Sutton, McKale Hopfer, Aryn Richardson, Nicole Notz, Danni Graybeal and Gracynn Smith. Each player was introduced with their families by their side.

Guthrie will begin to wind the regular season down before regionals begin in two weeks. They will entertain McGuinness on Saturday at 11 a.m.
