The Journal Record has announced their 2019 list of Fifty Making a Difference, which is a pre-cursor for the Woman of the Year. The program spotlights female business and community leaders. Guthrie resident Meredith Shaffer has been named a finalist.
Shaffer is the co-founder and CEO of the local nonprofit STORM Inc. (Strategic Treatment Options and Recovery Ministries).
The Woman of the Year award will be announced in October. She, along with the other honorees, will be recognized at an Oct. 10 banquet at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.
STORM Inc. opened in August 2017, birthed out of the Shafer’s own addiction crisis in September of 2013. STORM is a faith-based organization that meets anybody and in their crisis of addiction point, providing an individualized blueprint of recovery for both the addict and their family with locations in Guthrie, Edmond and Warr Acres.
STORM also has Logan County’s only sober living house for men.
Shaffer received her undergraduate from Oklahoma State University, and received her Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 2005. In 2010, Shaffer was nominated and selected as one of The Journal Record’s “Achievers Under 40.”
Shaffer will be a presenter at STORM’s 2nd Annual Overcomer Lunch on Aug. 1st from 11 – 1 p.m. alongside District 31 Representative Garry Mize and Guthrie’s Jason Reece.
