Former University of Central Oklahoma wrestling standout and current GNP TV broadcaster Shawn Silvis has been selected to the NCAA Division II All Quarter Century Team (2001–2025) at 165 pounds. The honor recognizes the most dominant wrestlers of the past 25 years, placing Silvis among the sport’s elite.
Silvis, who now lives in Guthrie with his wife Lyndsey and their three children — Wesley, Wyatt, and Wager — enjoyed a decorated wrestling career from 2000 to 2004 with the UCO Bronchos.
A four-time state placer at Augusta (Kan.) High School, Silvis quickly made an impact at the collegiate level. As a true freshman in 2000-01, he went 27-16 and qualified for the NCAA Division II national tournament after finishing as the Midwest Regional runner-up.
The following season, despite battling through an early knee injury, Silvis put together a dominant 31-2 campaign. He captured both the regional and national championships at 165 pounds, helping lead UCO to the team national title.
Silvis repeated his dominance in 2002-03, posting a 32-6 record with another sweep of the regional and national crowns as the Bronchos secured back-to-back team championships. His bid for a third consecutive national title fell just short during his senior season, where he finished as national runner-up. That year, Silvis was named Midwest Regional Wrestler of the Year after claiming the regional championship. He finished his senior campaign with a 41-4 record, the fifth-most wins in a single season at UCO, and 25 bonus-point victories.
Silvis wrapped up his career with an impressive 131-28 record, ranking third on UCO’s all-time wins list. His accomplishments earned him induction into the NCAA Division II Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2013.
Today, Silvis continues to stay connected to athletics and the Guthrie community through his work as part of the broadcast team on GNP TV. His recent selection to the All Quarter Century Team adds yet another chapter to an already remarkable career on and off the mat.
