Sheriff Bauman congratulates sheriff-elect, thanks citizens

One of the many phone calls and messages Sheriff-elect Damon Devereaux received following last Tuesday’s election came from the man he defeated in the Republican primary runoff.

Sheriff Jim Bauman released a statement on Sunday informing county residents he insures a smooth transition when Devereaux, former City of Guthrie police chief, takes office on Jan. 1, 2017.

“I would like to congratulate Damon Devereaux on being the next Logan County Sheriff,” Bauman said in a five paragraph statement. “It is my commitment to the citizens that I will work with Devereaux and to assist him in every way possible to help prepare him to take office.”

Devereaux, who won 14 of the 22 precincts, collected 2,085 votes, or 54.68 percent, while Bauman, who nearly won the primary in June, brought in 1,728 votes, or 45.32 percent. Related article: Voters elect Damon Devereaux new sheriff for Logan County

“From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the citizens of Logan County for the opportunity to serve them for the last eight years. I am extremely proud of my employees who worked tirelessly to achieve my vision of professionalism,” Bauman said.

Bauman went on to give thanks to his family and supporters and encouraged everyone to support Devereaux in his new role.

“I encourage each of you to reach out and show your support to Sheriff Devereaux when he takes office and give him your support and assistance to accomplish what he has committed to the citizens of Logan County,” Bauman said.

Bauman concluded by saying, “God IS (sic) good and we have been praying for HIS (sic) will to be done throughout this process. We trust it was, and we look forward to what He (sic) has in store for our family. Our God has NEVER (sic) failed us.”
