Logan County Sheriff Damon Devereaux has endorsed candidate Marven Goodman in the runoff race for county commissioner.
“I support the re-election of Commissioner Marven Goodman as the District 1 Commissioner,” Devereaux said in a campaign mailer sent out over the weekend by Goodman’s camp.
Goodman, who is currently serving in his first term as commissioner, is up against former county commissioner Mark Sharpton in the Republican primary runoff.
“Commissioner Goodman has made and continues to make many improvements to his district and the county. In these improvements, fiscal responsibility and the needs of the residents are two things I have seen Commissioner Goodman maintain as his priorities,” Devereaux added.
He continued, “Commissioner Goodman is an effective team player and has demonstrated his ability to work with the citizens of Logan County.”
Goodman says he is thankful for the endorsement.
“I am very blessed to have the endorsement of such a well-respected member of our community and County elected official. Working together we are making Logan County a safer community.”
In 2014, Goodman defeated, then incumbent, Sharpton by 46 total votes (958-912).
However, in June, Sharpton gained more votes over Goodman and Dan Simmons in the primary, but failed to get 50 percent of the vote resulting in the Aug. 28 runoff.
Sharpton finished with 1,432 primary votes, Goodman with 1,142 and Simmons with 417.
The winner of the Goodman, Sharpton runoff will be back in office in January with no Democrats or Libertarians filing for office.
