The current 75-pound and 20 month old deputies have been on the force since this summer and have already made their mark for the department.

See video below.

“They’ve already hit on money, they’ve hit on drugs and it’s going to be on-going thing for us,” Bauman said.

Darco is commanded by Deputy Jim Daves and Max follows Sgt. Paul Martin everywhere they go on their daily 8-hour shift. The dogs then go home with their owners where they live and are a part of the family. Both companions understand the Dutch language.

The total cost of the shepherds was $18,000, but were donated to the department from anonymous business owners. Both canines are CLEET certified just as a two-legged officer on the force.

  1. I think the addition of the dogs are wonderful. I only hope the officers who have them appreciate them.

  2. I bet marijuana is legalized before those dogs are retired. And if so, what good are the dogs?
