Despite trailing majority of the game, Skiatook’s magical season continues while ending Guthrie’s football season in the second round of the high school playoffs. With the Bulldogs win, Class 5A will have a new champion.
Skiatook traveled 80 yards on 10 plays and scored a 17-yard touchdown pass for the game’s final score with 3:52 to play in the final quarter. Skiatook (11-1) advanced with a 13-10 win to end the BlueJays season at 10-2.
Guthrie’s Idae Alexander finished with a game high 203 rushing yards and a score, but his second quarter score was the last time the Jays were able to put any points on the board. Alexander finishes his senior campaign with 2,081 yards and 23 scores.
The BlueJays traveled quickly on their opening drive of the game with a 14-play drive covering 57 yards with a 22-yard field goal from Nathanel Luevano.
Alexander’s 5-yard touchdown run increased the Jays lead 10-0 with 4:10 left to play until halftime.
Perhaps, the biggest play in the game came just 18 seconds later.
Skiatook, who throughout the night struggled to run the football (60 yards) against the Jays defense, went to the air on first down. Quarterback Cameron Hudson hit Stephen Upton in stride for a 69-yard score to drop the Jays lead down to three, 10-7.
Neither team could get things lined up offensively until the Bulldogs final drive. On a well-thrown ball, Hudson spotted tight end Beau Wooden for the 17-yard eventual game winner.
Guthrie Blue Jays – Thank you! Thank You! THANK YOU! for all the fun I had watching, and/or listening to, your games this year. All the coaches, players, support staff, cheer staff, boosters, teachers, ground crews, and anyone else associated with this program can only hold their heads high and be proud of what was accomplished this year. With the experience gained this year by the underclass-men, coaches and support staff, I’m looking forward to another championship run next year. Have a great Christmas, New Year and off season. Begin preparing yourselves mentally, right now, so you can accomplish your goals for next year.
