The Guthrie Softball program played in their first district game of the season and proved to be too much for Oklahoma City Southeast.
The Lady Jays need just four innings to collect their 6 win of the season with a 12-0 shut-out win. Guthrie improves to 6-9 overall, but now 1-0 in district play.
District play will determine the playoff seeding for the regionals at the end of the season in a new format comprised by the OSSAA. In past seasons, it was seeded by the coaches poll. The eight team district is made up of El Reno, Carl Albert, Deer Creek, Bishop McGuinness, Guthrie, Shawnee, NW Classen and Southeast.
Guthrie jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after the first inning and added three more in the second to take control of the game with an 8-0 lead. The Lady Jays added two in the third and the game winning run in the fourth. In the end, eight different Lady Jays crossed the plate.
Southeast found difficulty putting the ball into play as Bailey Shaffer collected 9 of the 12 outs via the strike out in the circle, including the first five Lady Spartans to begin the game.
New Scoreboard
The improvements continue on at the GHS Softball with the recent addition to the new score board in right field. The scoreboard replaces the left field scoreboard that was damaged in the Guthrie May 24th tornado.

Upgrades include a new back stop, new netting, leveling of the infield, new infield dirt surface along with fresh paint on the back stop, dugouts and batting cage polls to name a few.

Guthrie participated in their second tournament of the season and finished the three-day event with a 2-4 record.
The two wins came over Newkirk (3-2) and Chisolm (4-0). The set backs came against Okarche (2-1), Perry (1-0), Berryhill (9-0) and Ponca City (6-0).
