Before the Guthrie Lady Jays softball team knew it they were down 7-0.
Guthrie opened the Shawnee Tournament, for their third tournament on the young season, with an 8-4 setback to the Lady Wolves. On Tuesday, Guthrie dropped a 10-0 decision to Deer Creek to fall to 1-1 in district play.
Shawnee belted four runs in the first inning and three more in the second inning. Guthrie, however, did not lay down and responded with four runs, including three in the fourth, to pull within three runs, 7-4, but Shawnee ended the game with a run in the fifth.
In other Thursday tournament games, Carl Albert defeated Seminole (13-1), McAlester nipped Carl Albert (4-2), Deer Creek knocked off Tecumseh (7-6) and McAlester (3-0) and Coweta whipped Tecumseh (8-0).
Guthrie (6-11) returns to the field Friday morning with an 11 am first pitch against Seminole and will turn around and play Booker T. Washington at 3:30.
