SCHEDULE ALERT — Due to expected rains this week, the Lady Jays regional will be moved up a day and two hours earlier.
The regional in Collinsville will now begin on Wednesday and conclude on Thursday. Guthrie’s first game will be at noon. Times and dates have been edited in the following story.
The Guthrie softball team is three wins away from a state tournament berth for the first time since 1997. If that were to happen, they will need to claim wins over Tulsa area teams on the state’s east side.
The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association released the regional assignments and the Lady Jays will be headed to Collinsville for the two-day regional (Oct. 8-9).
The host and top seed, Collinsville, will take the field first against Edison Prep at 10 a.m. Collinsville is currently 24-10 overall and finished second behind Coweta in District 5A-3. Up to date, Edison is 5-22 on the year.
The second game, set for 12 p.m., will be Guthrie and Claremore. The Lady Jays finished third in 5A-4 behind Carl Albert and Durant while Claremore finished sixth overall in 5A-3. Guthrie has piled up a current 17-10 record compared to Claremore’s 8-21 record.
The first round losers will play at 2 p.m. and the winners will play at 4 p.m. to conclude day one.
Thursday’s schedule will begin with game five at 10 a.m. followed up by game six at 12 p.m. If the “if necessary” game is needed the game will be played at 2 p.m.
The regional winner will play the winner of the Chickasha Regional (Chickasha, Noble, Guymon and Western Heights) in the first round of the state tournament to be held in Shawnee.
