Softball now know where regionals will be played

The Guthrie Lady Jays Softball team will have a slight advantage when regional play starts in a few weeks, but the challenge has been set as Guthrie must make a two-plus hour trip to Southeastern Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association released the 2010 regional pairings and the 17th ranked Lady Jays have been shipped to the East and will have to travel to McAlester for the double elimination regional. Tulsa Edison rounds out the rare 3-team regional.

Tulsa Central was unable to comprise a team to compete so in turn McAlester receives a first round bye and Guthrie and Edison play for the right to play McAlester in the next round. All other regionals have the common four team format.

Guthrie is currently 12-19 on the season and just ahead of the Lady Jays in the rankings at No. 16 is Edison with a 17-6 record. Guthrie plays in perhaps the toughest conference in 5A as Carl Albert, El Reno, and Deer Creek are hosting a regional.

McAlester is ranked third in the state with a 28-7 record and are one of the perennial programs in the state.

Game times and dates will be posted here as they become available this week.

The following is a list of regional’s starting with the overall No. 1 seed Carl Albert. The host team is listed first.

Carl Albert, Shawnee, Bishop McGuinness, Southeast
MacArthur, Altus, Ardmore, Capitol Hill
El Reno, Duncan, Northwest Classen, Noble
Deer Creek, Coweta, Chickasha, Western Heights
McAlester, Thomas Edison, Guthrie
Tahlequah, Durant, Booker T. Washington, Nathan Hale
Grove, Collinsville, Bishop Kelley, Will Rogers
