While the Guthrie softball team enjoys one of their highest rankings in years, they are also taking in one of their toughest schedules in years.
The fifth ranked Lady Jays took part in the Sand Spring Tournament recently and came out with just one win in five games, but the caliber of opponent was among the who’s who.
Guthrie squared off against 6A’s top-ranked Owasso Rams and 15th ranked Edmond Memorial Bulldogs. Both programs have had continued success. With that said, the Lady Jays dropped a 9-2 decision to Owasso and a 2-1 decision to Edmond.
The other two losses came to the hands of Perry and Glenpool. Perry, ranked No. 4 in Class 3A, got a 2-1 win while Glenpool was two runs better 7-5.
Despite losing six of seven games, Guthrie got back in the win column and more importantly back in the district win column with wins on Monday and Tuesday.
In celebration of Pink Week, Guthrie collected their second win over Shawnee this season with a 7-2 win and topped that with a second district win over El Reno, on the road, 10-4.
The Lady Jays are now 15-12 overall and a 7-3 district record to continue to hold down the third spot behind Carl Albert and Deer Creek.
They will have the rest of the week off before they conclude the regular season next week as they host Northwest Classen on Monday, travel to Carl Albert on Tuesday and host Southeast on Thursday for Senior Night.
All games are set to begin at 5 p.m.
